Our Story
In 1997, Pastor Tresville and Heidi Verhoog started to home school their own two children on the A.C.E. program. Through research and conviction, they believed that the Biblical mandate was to train up their children according to the principles in the Word of God. Others shared in this belief and the need for a Christian-based education grew. Families partnered with the Verhoogs and so in January 1998, Young Eagles Christian Academy opened its doors for other learners.
God continued to bless and grow the school.
Soon this school moved into a big Cape Dutch building in Kuils River, which remains its location to this day. A neighboring school in Somerset West closed their doors and there was a dire need for another school in the Somerset West area. Pastor Tresville answered the call which birthed the establishment of the Helderberg Campus in Somerset West in January 2006. In 2008 Mrs Sharon Hancocks was appointed Principal of the Oostenberg campus.
Both campuses placed tremendous value on a high educational and spiritual standard and both campuses were awarded Quality Status from AEE Ministries after only one year of existence. Pastor Tresville and Heidi served many years in Christian Education support other AEE independent schools as Ministry Representatives both nationally and internationally. After many years of service, ill health forced the Verhoogs to close the Helderberg campus at the end of 2017 after 11 years of service.
In 2019, the Verhoogs retired and handed Young Eagles Christian Academy over to a well-established School Governing Body. Shortly thereafter, after a long battle with his health, Ps Tresville Verhoog stepped into Glory on 17 June 2019. His legacy lives on in the passages and Learning Centres of Young Eagles and his faith in God and his Godly work ethic remains a reminder of our Godly mandate and calling. Ma’am Heidi continues to serve Young Eagles in an advisory capacity and remains a faithful supporter of the vision of Christian Education and a dedicated prayer warrior for the school and its community.
